I Taste Tested Everything for You So You Don't Have To

by Hanna Mordekhai

Happy November! In honor of being 83 degrees in New York, here are my favorite  Ice Cream Shops to cool you down in the fall knits and leathers you already whipped out.

Name: Catch'N Ice Cream from Dylan Lemay

Location: 65 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012

Not only is it yummy, but it gives a little thrill in the fear of embarrassment and the chance you miss your ice cream. This ice cream shop lets you choose your flavor, and then fight for it. Once you pick your poison ball of delight, you are given a plastic cup, where the worker throws your ice cream at you from about 12 feet away. Although it could be nerve-racking, to put it best, it’s not that deep, it’s pretty easy to catch. Coming from an extremely uncoordinated and non-athletic person who caught her cookie dough with flying colors, you should be fine. They then roll out the ice cream and disperse the flavor. I would visit Catch’n’Ice after a Soho or Noho dinner!

Name: Anita’s Gelato

Location:  1561 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10028

& 1141 Broadway, New York, NY 10001

Ever pass by a  minty- colored-aesthetically-pleasing ice cream shop with a line at the door and think “damn, how good can it be?”, well, the answer is good. Anita’s Gelato now has two locations in NYC. The flavors are exquisite and niche, there is no way someone cannot find something just perfectly to their liking. From “Cappucino with Butter Cookies”, to “Pistachio with White Chocolate Cream”, the tastebuds that Anita brings out are breathtaking. A tip of advice, get the small. The cup looks tiny, but let me tell you; they fill it to the rim! Anita’s has our tummy and hearts smiling from Flatiron to the Upper East Side.

Name: Morgernstern’s Fine Ice Cream

Location: 88 W Houston St, New York, NY 10012

The border between hormonal college students and rich B-list celebrities, Morgenstern’s sits on the corner of  Houston Street and Laguardia Place. The corner store is quaint looking and simple in design, with a real X-ray vision of the whereabouts behind the counter. With a wide range of flavors that all are dripping with nostalgia and real, healthy, ingredients, Morgernstern’s has a rich, fulfilling taste. It is the epitome of a perfect American Ice Cream experience. I can go on about my love for Morgenstern’s, but I’ll leave this here: my favorite flavor is called “raw milk”. Don’t ask questions and thank me later!

Name: Mister Softee

Location: Anywhere and Everywhere.

Mister Softee never loses. Sometimes you just need a cone to the face of the nostalgic delicious and simple soft serve.

Anyway, my love for ice cream and its nuances from place to place can hold as much as a personal memoir. I hope you enjoy these places if you go, chances are you’ll bump into me!
